Anaesthesia (Anaesthesiology)
Our anaesthesiology team is dedicated to the safe administration of anaesthesia across a wide range of animal species. Our specialists are always available to ensure your pet receives professional anaesthetic care, guaranteeing the best possible anaesthesia outcomes for routine and complex surgeries, critically ill animals and emergencies.

Our services
Our anaesthesiology team ensures that your pet, regardless of species, is protected from unnecessary pain during and after surgery. We also support the management of intensive care patients, optimising post-operative pain management. Using the latest methods and equipment for anaesthesia and pain management, we can safely treat and anaesthetise all animal species, regardless of weight and age. Additionally, our specialists offer novel targeted pain therapies using ultrasound-guided techniques to directly inhibit pain at its source – the nerve. Other methods such as acupuncture are also available for treatment of your pet at our clinic.
In the Small Animal Hospital, our section administers anaesthesia to dogs and cats, collaborating closely with surgery, medicine, ophthalmology, dentistry, and radiology sections. Pain management begins before surgery and is a top priority, with a focus on alleviating animal suffering. Postoperative care, particularly for intensive care patients, is a crucial part of our service.
Equine anaesthesia is particularly demanding, as very large (on average approx. 500 kg, sometimes up to over 1000 kg), often fearful flight animals must be reliably and carefully anaesthetised. Our specialised anaesthesia team is prepared to anaesthetise horses in a calm and safe state. For this purpose, we not only have modern anaesthesia equipment, but also specially designed tables, cranes and padded as well as heated recovery boxes. Your horse will be calmed and relaxed by our team of specialists, to avoid any stress and ensure safety for your horse.
Closely monitored anaesthesia ensures that your horse’s vital signs and functions are continuously monitored. These include circulation, respiration, depth of anaesthesia and pain relief. Thanks to these techniques, complicated operations can be performed regardless of your horse’s age. We also have a unique facility in Europe that allows horses to recover after fracture surgery in a specially designed and heated water bath. This ensures a safe recovery phase for all types of surgery, so that horses can stand safely and calmly again after surgery and anaesthesia.
Our Anaesthesiology Section also provides anaesthesia for ruminants and other domestic and wild animals requiring diagnostic procedures or surgeries. We support the Farm Animal Hospital in pain management and intensive care, including the use of a CT scanner for reliable diagnosis of issues in large animals.
For the Zoo Animals, Exotic Pets and Wildlife Hospital, our section conducts anaesthesia in birds, small pets, and reptiles.
