What is the profile of the University Animal Hospital Zurich?
The University Animal Hospital of the University of Zurich is a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of animals. Whether dogs and cats, horses, farm animals, zoo animals, pets or wild animals, the animal hospital offers a wide range of services at the highest level to promote the health and well-being of animals.
As part of the University of Zurich and the Vetsuisse Faculty, the core tasks also include research and teaching. This makes it possible for the latest scientific findings and technologies to be integrated into the treatment of animals and the training of future experts. Combining leading medical care and scientific expertise, the University Animal Hospital Zurich is an important institution in animal health and a pioneer in the development of innovative treatment methods and technologies.
The University Animal Hospital in figures
The University Animal Hospital of the University of Zurich is one of the largest veterinary clinics in Europe, treating more than 28,000 patients a year. In 2023, around 52% of our patients were dogs, 22% cats, 13% horses and 7% cattle. The Animal Hospital provides 24-hour emergency care and employs more than 450 people, including in teaching and research.

Hospital tours
Notes on the guided tours
- The guided tours are aimed at adults. Children under the age of 11 are not permitted.
- Most of the tours take place outdoors
- Guided tours are available in English and German
- Duration approx. 1.5 h
- Price per group: CHF 60
- Maximum 15 people per group
- A maximum of two groups can be accepted at the same time.
- Please travel by public transport if possible as parking is limited.
- If travelling by car, please park in the Irchel multi-storey car park
- Guided tours are not available on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Guided tours are not available in January or from the last week of May to the first week of July.
