Swiss Equine Cardiology Consulting

Providing detailed analysis and rapid feedback, our Large Animal Cardiology Consultancy service allows veterinarians’ worldwide access to experts in the field of large animal cardiology.

Do you find it time consuming and tricky to analyse and interpret ECGs? Would you like a second opinion? Do you have a case that cannot be transported to an equine hospital but needs a cardiology consult?

The Large Animal Cardiology Consulting service provided by Dr Katharyn Mitchell, PhD, Dipl. ACVIM and Prof Dr Colin Schwarzwald, PhD, Dipl. ACVIM, Dipl. ECEIM, of the Equine Department, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich aims to provide in-depth, state of the art analysis of both resting and exercising ECGs, interpretation of echocardiograms and laboratory data in cases of heart disease in horses or other large animal species.

If you have a difficult equine cardiology case and would like additional information and advice then contact us!

If you would like a detailed analysis of your recorded ECGs (resting and exercising) within a short time frame then contact us!

We are happy to look at and interpret any uploaded echocardiography images, videos, ECG recordings or laboratory reports.

Depending on the extent of your request, you can expect a response within 1-3 working days. The turnaround time for comprehensive analyses of long-term ECG recordings and exercising ECGs averages 3-5 working days (depending on length and quality of the recording).

All you need to do is fill in our contact form, providing details (e.g. patient details, medical history, physical exam findings, treatment information) about the case and upload any relevant information (ECG files, echo loops, images etc) using the upload link provided below.

We can loan a Televet® ECG recording system so exercising or overnight ECG recordings can be performed in the field.

In selected cases, we are also available for field consults (echocardiography, exercising electrocardiography) for horses that are located in Switzerland but unable to travel the Tierspital Zurich for examination.
